About Us
Climb in Rio is the first company to offer guided climbs for foreigners and locals, operating since 1990. We provide rock climbing guide services for all ages and abilities, and our team of experienced local climbing guides is ready to take you on the best climbing experience Rio can offer. All our guides are passionate about climbing and about the mountains, and we enjoy the art of guiding and helping climbers achieve their goals.
We offer several different climbing packages from half day to multi day climbing trips, covering all abilities from first timer to seasoned climber. Although made up of an international team of experienced and capable guides, we do not operate like a typical tourism company and do not wish to be seen as one. Our clients can expect more of a relaxed and friendly experience with us, than a formal and structured tour. We enjoy meeting new people and sharing our local knowledge with them, giving them a chance to see the city through our eyes, and hope to treat our guests more like “friends from out of town” than clients.
Our goal is to have a good time while also offering a professional and safe adventure in the mountains of Rio. After years of providing guiding services to hundreds of clients from around the world we have learned that the most satisfying experience is when a friendship and comfortable atmosphere are created. All our guides are AGUIPERJ certified.

Andrew is an American living in Rio de Janeiro since 1998. He has been an avid rock climber since 2004 and has climbing experience in Brazil, Argentina and the United States. In 2010 he co-founded the climbing school C.E.U. which provides free climbing instruction to youth from the favela of Rocinha. Andrew also spent many years working as a percussionist, a professional sailor, as well as the Brazilian Coordinator of the internationally recognized organization Schools Without Borders. Andrew is certified by the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism as a professional tour guide as well as by AGUIPERJ, as a professional rock climbing instructor.

Born and raised in Rio, Mingo started to climb in this city in 2001. Since then has been climbing a lot in Rio and on the mountain ranges surrounding it. Had the opportunity to climb in a few other special places like Frey, Arenales (ARG), Eldorado Canyon, Tuolumne Meadows, Yosemite Valley, Joshua Tree, Red Rock, Needles (US), Serra dos Órgãos and Três Picos de Salinas (Brazil). Mingo also enjoys spending time with his wife and children, and playing the drums. Mingo is a certified climbing instructor by AGUIPERJ, and trained in wilderness first responding by EASPA.

Marco Vidon is the original founder of Climb in Rio. He was an exceptional climber and instructor. Vidon opened some of the most classic routes in Rio. Off state, he has climbed spectacular places like Bariloche (Argentina), Zermatt (Switzerland), La Paz (Bolivia) and Chamonix (France). In 1992, he opened two routes that remain unrepeated in Pico da Neblina, the highest peak in Brazil, situated in the heart of the Amazon RainForest. As an instructor, he has already certified more than 200 climbers
